# The Hidden Value of Having More Choices

An extra card box doesn't directly earn you a single point. So why can it be so valuable? Because your score comes from the cards you are allowed to choose, and a wider offer changes which cards those are.

## Four is not three plus a spare

You normally see three cards, and effects can push that from one to six. A fourth box is not a fraction of a card's power. It is another chance that one option actually fits. Three boxes can miss the piece you want. A fourth finds it often enough to change the next stretch. The gain is largest when you are chasing something specific.

## The search is the strategy

Collecting Speed for Speed Demon, Multiply for Converter or Stacking, or a new tag for Chain Reaction turns the offer into a search. More boxes raise the chance the search hits. They also let you keep a combo when the right tag is there, or break it when a new tag beats another step of the streak. A narrow offer makes that call for you.

## More picks and better picks

Speed, an instant re-pick and Freeze put more decisions into the run. Extra boxes improve each decision. Fast picks through a poor offer just make poor picks more often. A rich offer on a slow run can still run out of chances. You usually want some of both.

## A wider offer is how you say no

A hazard only fires if you pick the card carrying it, and a Poison only hurts if you take it. An extra box is often the clean card that lets you refuse a hazard or a Poison this run cannot carry. Overclock and Saboteur spend a box as part of the price. Drop far enough, and you have sold the right to refuse the next dangerous row. You always see at least one card, and never more than six.

Expansion adds a box, up to that limit, and a little lasting income based on how many boxes you then have. Nimble widens the offer and adds a little Speed. Spike widens it for a short run of picks, then the extra box leaves.

## Width is worth more while decisions remain

An extra choice early can echo, because the card you find is the one the rest of the run builds on. The same box with one pick left is only a slightly better final click. Take width while the search still matters.

## Skip and Buy Now choose the choice

Skip throws the offer away and deals another. The first Skip is free. Later ones cost score, and the cost climbs until it hits a cap, so another look at a bad row starts cheap and a skipping habit does not. Use it when nothing visible fits and the missing fit is worth more than the score.

Buy Now is the other lever. The button says Pick Now. Three times per run you can take a card during the cooldown, and the price falls as time passes until that instant pick is free. Spend a charge when waiting would waste a burst or short multiplier. Three impatient clicks early can leave the right card sitting behind a cooldown at the end.

Check the Speed and hazards guide, the synergy guide and the Card Library for what that option is worth.

## Before you spend a box, or refuse one

The freedom to choose can be worth more than the immediate reward.

- Treat a box as better options, not as points on the score.
- Value extra boxes more while you are hunting a specific synergy, and more while many picks remain.
- Use the extra option to refuse hazards and Poison you cannot carry.
- Spend the free Skip on a row with no fit, and spend Buy Now on a card that will not still be right after the wait.
